Rappelling from the second dry fall

The route quality:   **

The route type:

Rappelling trip.
The canyon is dry all the year round but be wary about floods during winter rains.

Each rappelling station is equipped with one bolt. *

You must have your own equipment to reinforce existing stations.

Getting there:

Drive from Eilat on the road number 12 for 27km (measured from the roundabout on the exit from Eilat) to a point where a dirt road marked with black marks and a trail marked with green marks branch right from the main road (Point 1, GPS:  29º 44' 18.1"N  34º 51' 10.1"E).

Follow the green trail to "Ein Shita" (about 1.8km) where it crosses a dirt road which is marked with red marks. The road is going along an obvious wadi. Turn right to this road, follow it for about 250m and then leave it staying in the main wadi that turns left at this point. You are now in the main channel of nahal Eteq South (Point 2, GPS:  29º 44' 01.0"N  34º 52' 10.6"E).

Follow the wadi for 2.2km till the first dry fall (Point 3, GPS:  29º 43' 28.0"N  34º 53' 03.4"E).

Route description:

There is 1 dry fall, which should be abseiled and 1 dry fall, which is not obligatory for abseiling:

1.  52m (20m vertical, then overhanging)

Station: One bolt with a self-made "ear" on a boulder on the far right side of the horseshoe-shaped cliff. The station can be (and must be!) easily reinforced with rope loop around a big nearby boulder (7-10m of auxiliary rope is needed). *

There is a long way to the second dry fall and it starts from piles of large boulders and patches of more or less easy down climbing. You should descent into a relatively narrow channel with layered walls. At the exit from the channel keep left avoiding some 6-10m high dry fall and finally descending into a flat and wide valley, in places covered with trees and shrubs (see pictures below).

After about 2km of walking down the valley you will join the trail marked with green marks and after 200m it will bring you to the second big horseshoe-shaped cliff.

As you are already on the marked trail, it is not obligatory to rappel from it, but you can do it just for the fun.

2.  47m (about 20-25m vertical, then overhanging)

Station: One bolt with a self-made "ear" on the rocks on the left inside the main channel. The station can be (and must be!) reinforced using nearby boulders and cracks. It may be a bit tricky, so be inventive! *

Regardless of whether you rappel from this dry fall, you'll come back to the road 12 by hiking the "green" trail (about 6km)

Note:

There are interesting options for extension: from below the second dry fall you can continue to "Tmilat Eteq" oasis or even you can do the whole loop via "Gabei Eteq" pits - a narrow canyon equipped in places with a kind of "via ferrata".

The route quality:

*****  - The only one of its kind. A "must do" trip!

****    - Very interesting, highly recommended!

***      - Pretty nice route.

**        - Inexpressive one.

*          - Do it if you have nothing to do...
