Eilat Mountains

Rappelling from the second dry fall

The route quality:   ***

The route type:

Rappelling trip.
The canyon is dry all the year round but be wary about floods during winter rains.

The rappelling stations are equipped with rope loops. *

You must have your own equipment to complete or reinforce existing stations.

Getting there:

Drive from Eilat on the road number 12 for 31km (measured from the roundabout on the exit from Eilat) to a point where a dirt road marked with green marks branches right from the main road (GPS:  29º 46' 22.9"N  34º 51' 50.7"E).

Generally speaking, you should arrive to point 2 ("Start point", 5.7km from road 12) or at least to point 1 ("Maale Sayarim" descent, 4.5km from road 12), but the dirt road marked with blue marks considered to be for 4x4 only.

In practice we have succeeded to get as far as "Maale Sayarim" with the regular private car, but it was not easy and other time it may be impossible. Pick-up car can do it easily to "Maale Sayarim" and you can get even to "Start point" but not without problems. Jeep can do all the way with no problem of cause.

(GPS points:  "Maale Sayarim": 29º 45' 13.9"N  34º 53' 52.2"E ;  "Start point": 29º 44' 50.0 "N  34º 54' 18.7 "E)

From the "Start point" you should descent into the wadi of nahal Eteq. The first dry fall is just 350m down the wadi.

From below the 2nd dry fall walk down the canyon for 700m to join the trail marked with green marks. Follow the "green" trail and then the "blue" dirt road back to the start point (3.7km more).

Note:

There are interesting options for extension (the loop via "Gabei Eteq" pits and "Tmilat Eteq" oasis) or for non-circular route. Once on the "green" trail you can continue either to Timna Valley via "Maale Bereh" descent or to Beer Ora village via nahal Gadna (can be done with or without rappelling). All options are beautiful, so do your planning.
